The Big Yellow BBQ Battle Wagon was money this weekend! It was really neat cooking on the infield of the Shenandoah Speedway. Not so neat on Thursday night when I gunned the truck onto the track, my tailgate flew open and stuff flew out everywhere.

This event, venue and organizer has some serious potential. Congrats to D-Jello:tongue: on their GC

Well, we made it through our comp. WHAT A BLAST!!!!

And, best of all, we got a CALL!

We took 9th in chicken!

I’ll be dipped in sheepschit!!!!

The wife and I had a really great time. We were on the outside of the track behind the Pepper Monkey Team and between Late Empire and Free Range teams. All great folks! I must say again, I have the utmost respect for you all that have been doing this! The Pepper monkey team looked like a well oiled machine!!! I hope we get to that level sooner rather than later. And the People Choice part, they had to turn folks away! They had a line 20 people deep the whole time!

Special thanks to the JD Smokin’ Misfits folks who stopped by and spent a bunch of time with us; lookin’ forward to seeing you all at the Woodstock comp.

I really gotta say, you folks are some of the best people out there; period!

Kinda funny where our spot was, right next the to main water spigot. So many people we got to talk with while they were getting water refills. Again, great folks.

Another good thing, we did not finish DAL! We even managed to finish 13 out 17!

We learned a lot; A HELLAVA LOT! Like, make sure you bring all the stuff you need (forgot brown sugar, didn’t have enough rub for ribs, and others).

Oh yeah, I need to pay attention when I am purchasing things. Wednesday, I walked out of Restaurant Depot with my food for the weekend. As I was looking at the pork, they had butts on sale for $1.29lb. Great!!! So, I looked thru a bunch and found a pack that looked good. Got the rest of my stuff and headed out. When I got home, I looked at the receipt. It showed butts, $1.59lb. Bummer I thought as I was over charged.

Well, it is Friday early afternoon and we are prepping meats. I open the butts, and I said, “Something is wrong here”. Where the hell is the bone???? Oh crap!!! I looked at the label on the package. $1.59lb – Boneless Pork Butts. Bummer….. Trust me, the low score in pork was due to me wanting to put our sauce on the meat, not the fact that it was boneless; never again…

The ribs and brisket were all over done. What a waste. Another lesson learned: Do not change plans during an important event.

Here are some pics of our boxes.

Funny thing but, one judge scored a 9 in appearance on brisket, a 5 for taste and 2 for tenderness!!! The other scores for brisket were 8s and 7s with a couple of 6s. Don’t know what the heck happened to the piece that got a score of 2. I thought the appearance stunk, but tast and tenderness was decent.

Kit,
After your first call, they figured your team name out! And what a great time for it! GC!!

Can't wait for the next.

Also, some of the pics below are not the final turn in pic. Too dam much anixety!!

Please post feedback as your thoughts on these. I need all the hlp I can get!!

Had a blast at this one. No complaints for a call in chicken in our 2nd contest. Congrats to everyone who walked, lot of fun and what seemed to me to be a really well run/organized contest.

Glad you admitted to the track 'incident' before other's had to bring it to light! Good job last weekend Kit! Good luck with the big ones coming up!

It was great to meet you guys, and great job for your 1st comp! Hopefully we will be able to set up next to you in the near future.
