I could use your advice on a used Ole Hickory CTO, I haven't seen it in person yet. From the small picture it does look to be in good shape but my main concern is the $5,000 asking price for a one year used CTO.

http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/ank/for/2884248439.html

My only comparison is from older models that I have seen sold on craigslist from $2,500 - $3,500. I am eyeing this type of cooker because it is what would be required for me to venture into vending here in Minnesota.

I would offer about 4k for it, maybe he will take it. He might have it priced high so he can tell his wife that he tried to sell it and it wouldnt sell.

Call Margaret at Ole Hickory Pits, tell her Brad and Cindy from KY sent you - she will give you a great deal.

heck, a dealer sells them new on ebay - everyday for 4300 - http://www.ebay.com/itm/Ole-Hickory...vens_Ranges&hash=item2319e686ed#ht_583wt_1114

Not sure what Margaret will ask - but it's gotta be less than that.

The advantage is you got it close by, but take the quotes to your seller and show it to him in person - then he may be more flexible.

But I hear this all the time, 'well I paid...' - sorry for your luck man, here's the new price, wanna deal?

also, you won't go wrong with OHP - best on the market IMHO. I have two bigger ones.

I just picked up a sweet 5 yr old EL - with smoke evacuator (made for indoor use) for 3400.

Deals are out there - you just gotta find them and negotiate them.

Thanks guys, I offered him $4,000. His response was that I must not be serious. So I went and found some of the new ones offered online, to prove my point about being able to get a brand new one shipped to me for around $5,000.

I will present him with that information and see how he responds, but I think $4,000 is my top for this one. Brad, thanks for the contact, I will give Margaret a call today.

Ryan,

Margaret is a doll - we love Margaret.

Hey, they also make a 'double mailbox'. We affectionately call the CTOs a mailbox - they make a double now. I bet it's super high, but compare the capacity of the mailbox and the big dogs - like the EL-EDX (their best seller) or the SSE - like I have.

The Rotisserie is a space hog - Love it, but it takes up a BUNCH of room. also, the mailbox is easier to use in competition if you like those.

and it takes WAAAYYYYYY less gas to run it than the SSE - I can attest to that! :)

Yeah, I have been over every inch of Ole Hickory's website! I already have my mind made up on the CTO's, one for now and then a second when I am ready to buy a trailer and start vending.

Recently I was able to see KurtUSA's CTO in action and I was impressed! I have enough information now, all that is left is to see if this guy is going to get realistic about his price or if I will be having a new one shipped to me.

Brad, thanks again for all the help!

Just got off the phone with Margaret at Ole Hickory Pits! The poor guy that I am negotiating with must have paid list price if he paid $6,000.00, because she said factory direct price for a CTO with propane and comp. switch is $4,775 plus $567 for shipping to me and it would be here within two weeks.

Anyway, I will present him with all the information that I have and see if he is a little more motivated to deal at the $4,000 level. Hate to be a jerk, but it isn't my problem that he overpaid.

Well the ball is in his court, I have again offered him $4,000 backed with the information that I have found for brand new ones. The $4,000 is just about exactly 75% of what I can get a new one shipped to me for and to me seems like a fair price.
