Black walnut?

What I've always heard is that walnut is a low btu burner. It may impart flavor, but you'll want to burn it with an oak, ash, hickory, etc. to get a hot enough fire. I'd think it would taste like chit, but can't say for sure. I cut a lot of it in my shop and the smell of the dust can be overwhelming. I was told by a horse rancher that its the one wood that you don't use for horse bedding. The dust makes them sick.

What's this all have to do with using it for smoking? I don't know. This is all I know about walnut.

Black walnut is way to strong in my opinion I would not use it for smoking but it does make great furniture.

I don't use it but that doesn't mean anything. I don't think it will kill you so why not try it on something that has not cost you a fortune and see how you like it.

My Yard Guy brought me a whole barrel of Black Walnut chopped into chuncks about the size of a big fist. Perfect for the Brinkmann!!!
I smoked with it and I thought when I ate the Q, my lips were numb.
Na, couldn't be. I smoked with it again, same thing. Damn stuff was making me lips and mouth numb.
So, I burnt it up in my fire pit. It was BEAUTIFUL wood. That wood would have made good furniture ONLY.
Crap. Just my opinion.
Smoke on!!!!!

Dangerous Black Walnut

I'm pretty sure black walnut produces some kind of toxin that kills off other plants around it. Thats why when you find it in the woods nothing is growing around it. Kickass good thing you're not a plant otherwise you might be pushing up daisies. I guess I paid attention in school.

Here's an article on it

so what I'm saying don't use it.

I have heard too many bad things about black walnut specifically about it's bitterness. I do not use it.
