Im having a hard time finding a food grade barrel but I found some that had glue in them ...long story short can you get the glue out to make them safe to cook in or not ...thanks

Get it sandblasted, that's what i did. My barrel was food grade but it had the red liner in it. Other brethern recommended sandblasting to save time - best decision I ever made.

i can get the barrels for $8 so i thought wth if i can burn it out great if not maybe sand blasting wouldnt be that much

If you've got the time to do it burn the sucker out yourself with a Harbor Freight weed burner http://www.harborfreight.com/propane-torch-91033.html Just hook that up to a propane tank and go to work from the outside of the drum. Go slowly until the steel is almost red. This will take about 1-1/2 hours. Then I pressure wash the inside to see what is left. I may wire brush if needed. Pressure washing really gets the dust out of the pores in the steel.
I checked on sandblasting around here and it was stupid expensive. I've got more time than money so I did it myself.

8$ a barrel is a pretty good deal! If you have the time to get them all cleaned out, that would be the way to go.

Yea I was in a similar situation. Bought 2 barrels for 8 bucks with tan liner. Burning them out wasn't an option so I tried to angle grind it out. Not easy, thought about sandblasting them but I figured at that point I might as well get a reconditioned one for 40 bucks. Suckers came straight out of a furnace with no paint or liner.

ZERO point to buy a food grade barrel. The liner is what makes its "food grade" and if werer removing it...... then it just a steel drum. Soooo don't stress over "food grade" just go get your self a salvage drum and be happy.. there about 65 in Alaska so I know you can get them cheaper then that just start looking for industrial supplies... safety stores, haz-wast supply dealers ect.....

Just my 2 cents
