I had a woman that I pay to advertise with wanting a quote for 60 for a drop off she wanted pulled pork, pulled chicken, beans, slaw, mashed potatoes and bread I quoted her $700 the place is 30 miles away and she was offended and said that was ALOT more than she thought it should be and wanted each item broke down as ala carte because she may need to do some of the items herself. I have spent about $3800 in advertising with them and recently have not been getting a return on it from new customers.

That's $11.66pp for two meats and 3 sides and is more than a fair price. i have a base price for drop offs that includes two sides, and XX for each additional side. I'd let her know if she wants to spent less money something will have to go, i.e drop a side and or meat.

WOW. Your entire post has me when I began my house painting business
in '89. Same Exact Thing. They want Everything for Nothing.
I took all those jobs, but after a few years, I realized I was wasting my time.
I went to High End, Low Volume, Hi Returns.
My wife tried her cleaning business on the cheap -
and started making $ after my advice - RAISE YOUR PRICES.
Cheap referrals beget CHEAP REFERRALS.
No thanks. Go higher end.
If you go Low end = VOLUME to make the same $. Headaches.

She is with the company I advertised with and I gave her the quote to help her out with her sons wedding rehearsal dinner and the more I thought about what she said the more pissed off I got so I will just tell her sorry we can't help and give her what I truly would have charged someone. I drop off free food on Thursdays sometimes but that will definitely stop.

The advertisement has worked but unfortunately not sure what she was thinking she said that it was higher than she expected. No crap if its not free it is too high

My best jobs were the ones I never took - would've lost $.
Walk away.
Don't bother to tell her the true cost - it looks cheap and cheezy, and no one wins.

yup - ad execs, politicians, and radio guys, sportscasters want free.
Free donuts, bagels, sandwiches....
Maybe stop by with a sample of your goodness to
a local Insurance agent, Stock Market office,
or Architect office? They are higher end who may hire you
for a gig - plus have +$ friends.
Higher end realtors for their open house with your cards
and brochures as well.

I would definitely not take that gig for less than your quote. She is lucky she didn't ask us for our price. It would be closer to $1K with an extra $50 for delivery.

I wouldn't take that job, I wouldn't break it down for her at all either.

I tell hubby (lcbateman3) if they are going to nickle and dime us they can move along to that "cheaper" caterer...SMH nobody wants to deal with that mess!

You also have to watch giving prices too far down the road with pork prices going thru the roof right now. We are not guaranteeing any prices right now. Butts have gone up $.50 per pound in the last 3 weeks.
