I was just wondering about using pecan hulls for smoking? Anyone tried this? or does it put out a bitter taste like the inside of the hulls?

I use them for grilling chicken just toss a hand full on the coals.

I love pecan wood, but I haven't gotten the pecan hulls yet. I need to stop by my friends house and walk around and pick some of the pecans up off the ground so I can use the hulls.

I did a job at a pecan factory and asked to guy there what they do with all the shells after shelling. He said they ship them off by the rail cars full to be used in the manufacture of charcoal briquettes. I thought that was cool.

Last year I found a guy on CL that was selling shells for $0.10 a pound, so we bought some........no.......a lot. 300 pounds of shells. They worked fine for smoking. I couldn't keep the mice from chewing open the burlap bags and eating what the could find in the shells. To top it off, it became infested with magots when spring came around. It all went to the dumpster at work.

Nice

Nice visual on the maggots.

Just realized I'm hungry for grits.
