I had an idea to build myself a smoker. I was having trouble finding a propane tank that wasnt 500 bucks. I found some 55 gal drums with some help from some bretheren. (THANK YOU) I made a fire box 18x18x20" out of 3/16 steel plate. I built a frame for the barrels and attached it to the fire box. I will try to pst some pics now to get to this point.

This pic kind of jumps ahead. I have barrels attached, cut out, and frame made around door opening. As well as smoke stacks cut into place and tacked.

What an awesom build! Cannot wait to see that thing fired up and cooking some Q...

Here you can see the racks I made. There are two in each barrel and they pull out for easy tending to meat. Also my 4" smoke stack starts approx 2" above my lowest rack.

Interesting build. Is that going to be reverse flow?

I installed a Fire place log lighter valve and a webber automatic ignition so it would make lighting my logs easy.

Yes it is reverse flow and I have a movable tuning plate so I can adjust flow from one side to the other. You wont have to wait for cooking pics I have already finished this build and I'm cookin a pork loin right now as a trial run. More pics to come.

First coats of 1200 deg paint

I installed an 1/8" x 1" flat 2000 deg gasket around both smoker doors. I still had a small amout of leakage so I made a trip to harbor freight and picked up 4 small C clamps. When cooking I just lock them around edge and get zero leaks. Works really good and pits run really really even with almost no difference in temp accross them. Works way better than I thought they even would.

cooking temps showing very even on dial thermometers. I have a new set of digital thermometers that will give me pit temp and the temp of one piece of meat on the way. I checked these with boiling water and against an instant read thermometer and all were within 10 deg ( they are new I wouldn't expect that performance very long).
