My son's and I built a pit to cook chicken for my youngest's graduation open house, it's not a smoker yet (but there are plans for additions) but I thought you all would appreciate the build anyway. I hope this is the right forum for it.

Father's day

The pit held approximatel 115 quarters at a time and we cooked about 225 for the open house. For Father's day we added a divider so we could use the pit without all four racks. We did ribs, chicken and some burgers and dogs for the youngsters. We had a great time

DOH!! Ya mental note here, clean the shop before I start taking pics,,,,it'll never happen though, the shop is one disaster, waiting for the next disaster. LOL

Might be deceiving in the pics, its 24" tall. Been cooking on a similiar pit at our county fair for a 4-H fundraiser for many years and that pit is 24" deep, so I built mine the same depth. It cooks chicken in about 2 hours, could push it faster if you wanted, but 2 for quarters, 3 hours for halves.

looking good! I've been thinking about a chicken cooker like this for myself.

nice setup, as soon as i saw you type deer camp, i knew you were from michigan!

Way to go! That is some serious grilling capacity there!

Cheers!

Bill
