All Right! The time is fast approaching for Chest to Chest and the Central Kansas BBQ Cookoff 1 & 2. Who is headed this way?

Thursday evening, Sept 2, the Chest to Chest cooks meeting will be catered by 4 Legs Up BBQ Restaurant, with Kelly & Roni Wertz sponsoring a Prime Rib dinner for the Chest to Chest contestants.

Friday Sept. 3 will have the Chest to Chest judging that early evening, 6 to 7 pm. Prize money is $3,000.00 winner take all, and of course the much desired trophy, the Bull Peni$ Walking Stick.

Saturday Sept. 4 will be the KCBS 4 meats contest, and ancillaries Anything Beef and Dessert.

Sunday Sept. 4 will be another KCBS contest with the standard 4 meat categories.

Entry fee will be as follows:
Both Saturday and Sunday contests entry is $375, this is for all categories including ancillary. If you only want to cook for one day of the contest the entry fee will be $275.

Prize Money:
$2000 for Grand Champion
$1000 for Reserve Champion
$200 for 1st place each category (including ancillary)
$150 for 2nd place
$100 for 3rd and 4th place
$50 for 5th thru 10th place

Ribbons for 1st thru 5th places.

The awards are for each contest so if you are Grand Champion both days you get $4000.

The Fair Board is planning on having a hamburger feed for all the teams Saturday evening, with the cooks potlucking a salad, vegetable, or dessert. Plus if we can get a sponsor, free beer.

Those with RV's can come early and stay late with no extra charge, we do ask that you let us know what type (how big) an RV so we can park you for the best fit.

We have set up a new e-mail address just for contest questions, centralkansasbbq@gmail.com . You can also call Kent at 620 793-2985. He may be on the tractor or moving irrigation pipe so he will try to return any calls when he can. The website is www.centralkansasbbq.com . The entry form is available on the website and a complete payout breakdown.

I will be one of the guys doing the meat inspections, so I hope to get to meet everyone. This will be a great contest and there is plenty of room so get signed up and we will see you soon!

Our entry form went out in the mail today, in for the Central States, haven't won an invite for Chest to Chest yet

What were the qualifying competitions?
When were they mailed?

We had a BBQ committee meeting last night, getting all the ducks in a row. Still wondering who all is entering? Local coffee shop is providing coffee and cinnamon rolls each morning. See you soon!

Is the Chest to Chest going to change? I had heard rumors this summer about doing it differently.

That's what I figured... he left the Pleasant Hill contest off that list. If that's the current accurate list, it's not right! Scott Stanley of Wild Blue qualified for the brisket win at Pleasant Hill last year. I was told twice by Kent that our 2009 and 2010 winners will qualify in 2010 and 2011 respectively. Why am I not surprised?

You qualified by winning the Royal (and maybe GAB).

If I read the qualifying spreadsheets right, we qualified this year with the 09 AR GC. We qualified for the 2011 C2C with the GAB Invite Brisket 1st place.

I have been hounding Kent to send me the spreadsheet so I can update it, and get it posted here. The website for the 2010 qualifiers is not corrected, I'm also working on getting that from him. He is currently picking corn, so hopefully it should only be a few more days.

It will depend on the number of teams competing in Chest to Chest. If we have 20 or less it will "MOST LIKELY" be the same as 2009. More teams would "PROBABLY" require a different judging process. Kent will let the teams decide at the Chest to Chest cooks meeting on Thursday Sept 2.

Since I am hosting the contest in Ames, I will be sending my father in law down for the first competition and I will come down Saturday afternoon for the second. It should be an interesting weekend! :)

Is Lawrence KS a qualifier for next year?

I don't see that it is on the list, if you know the organizer have him contact Kent Romine to discuss getting added. Kent sent me the spreadsheet with the qualifiers, I want to review it then I will post the 2010 list and also the 2011 list so far.

While you're at it, would you mind taking my home address off the list?

Thanks David! As an organizer telling teams they are in the C2C, I feel much better knowing that I did not lie! LOL!
