I've seen the rib-less ones but not one with the top ring cut off. Usually folks cut up the kettle bottom to fit inside. I imagine it is a bit flimsy without the support of that ring. Should still work just fine though...just be careful not to bend it out of shape moving it around.
The top looks like it fits great!
