I have owned three pellet smokers in my time, and use them often.
As people before have mentioned, it is definitely up to your tastebuds. It is definitely not a heavy smoke, but always a good clean smoke. I have never tasted any bad smokey flavor on my food like I have off of some other smokers. It is super consistent in its flavor too. All of my friends and family that I have cooked for seem to think it just the right amount of smoke flavor. The brand and type of pellets you use can have a dramatic effect too. So I suggest experimenting with different brands of pellets.
Those of us that use pellet smokers catch a lot of grief from the more traditional people, but it is worth it for the food and ease of use that these things put out every time.
