Yep. My first cook was the latter. I just had no idea what I was doing. It was smelling like that before I put any meat on.
It was much better last night, but tonight I'll either burn the middle of the top and add some wood or borrow my neighbor's chimney. I'll probably try both to see which one I prefer.
