There are multiple ways to start/run a fire on a Backwoods in terms of where you start the fire in the pan and how you move the vents. Here what I do to run my G2 Party & Chubby........
I started with water in the pan, light the 2 back corners with weber cubes, both bottom vents are wide open (exhaust vent is 100% open the whole time). When I'm within 25 degrees I completely close the back left vent and close the front right about halfway. When it gets within 5-10 degrees the front right get closed to about an inch. Then it normally holds around 225-235.
Other factors could come into play like the charcoal you are using and wood, but that is how I do it.
