The silicone seal and firebricks in the bottom made a big difference in holding temp and the large swings. Especially in windy conditions.

My favorite pellets for pork is has what they call perfect mix. Hickory, cherry, hard maple, and apple pellets. 100 hardwood, no fillers.
I use a formula
24 cans of beer lbs of meat X temp +- foil = vodka
