In the past I have always soaked except the last time I used dry chips in my Masterbuilt electric. With soaked hips the glass would turn back along with heavy smoke exiting the smoker. With the dry chips the glass stayed clear the whole time with light smoke exiting the smoker. It was nice to be able to see inside the smoker without opening the door. You could see plenty of moisture rolling down the glass so moisture was not a problem. Neither did I use water in the water pan and used 2 charcoal briquette in the chip tray. The smoker is new and this method was my most successful cook so far.
