Put 2 family size Lipton bags in a pan of boiling water (about a quart), remove from heat and let steep covered for 10 minutes
Juice 3-4 large lemons (no pulp or seeds)
Put 1.25 to 1.5 cups of sugar in the bottom of a 1 gallon pitcher
pour the steeped tea (do not squeeze the bags) on top of the sugar and stir until the sugar disolves
fill the pitcher with crushed ice then tap water to fill. (not cubes-the ice allegedly "precipitates" the tea)
Pour lemon juice in and stir. It is ready to drink.
It does not keep long. It is best within a half-day of making it. It is an aquired taste, very lemony and sweet. I make it when I do a big cook or for family gatherings. My dad's mother made it and he says I make it better than my mother does, which is quite a compliment from him.
