Default Brisket Question

I have a Brinkman electric smoker that I installed a rotissurie on. I would like to try a brisket on it but from what I've read about liquid pans and no pans, should I remove the pan and rotate over the element? I also have a spare smoker (same exact one) that I kept for parts and I may convert to charc and maybe a temp control system. Too many cool ideas on here.
