Good eye! Yes, thaty was my first prototype and I did smoke some ribs with that diffuser. Heat regulation was not affected and getting the drum up to temp was normal. Didn't notice any more fuel burn but it was just ribs and not a butt.
That diffuser did get the drum temps to balance out to within 15 degrees after 1 1/2 - 2 hours from the center to the sides.
My goal is to get the center and the side to within 10 degrees without choking down the fire and drum ventilation.
