NB BD - What size Thermometer Stem
I'm almost done refinishing a NB BD I picked up on craigslist, and I'm at the part where I am researching Thermometers.
Based on the posts in this forum, I'm looking at Tel-Tru and Ashcroft ( so far I like the customization options offered by Ashcroft) I haven't been able to find any sources that say what size stem I should use. I plan on mounting the thermometer at meat level, should I get a 4" stem to get the most accurate reading? |

I would get one that goes to the middle of the grill. I have a 12" on my UDS.

Wal-mart . Look for a turkey fryer thermometer. I recently got one with a 3" face and 12" stem on e-bay for the UDS i am building for a rotissere set-up. |
If you are mounting it on the door at grate level, it needs to be at least 2.5" or it will get inconsistent readings. 4" will be fine as long as you are careful with your meat and don't let anything touch it.
