Mustard Sauce
I'm a mustard freak, I put mustard on anything and everything, especially sandwiches. For some reason or the other, I can't recall ever having a mustard bbq sauce.

What is your favorite commercial mustard bbq sauce?

youngbloodbbqenthusiast 01-07-2014 10:42 PM

Cattleman's mustard sauce is fan-farking-tastic!

landarc 01-07-2014 10:45 PM

I have only had Melvin's and it is quite good.

Smoothsmoke 01-07-2014 10:45 PM

Yeah Landarc, your post inspired this thread.

I make my own

I also make my own. I haven't found a good bottled sauce that I like, but then again mustard BBQ sauces are not plentiful here. I've never seen Cattlemens mustard sauce. I would give it a go. I use the regular sauce in some BBQ bean and other dishes sometimes.

I am also wanting to try a good mustard sauce for the next butt I do. Does anyone care to share a recipe they like?

Blues Hog Honey Mustard is real good.
As far as a more "traditional" mustard/vinegar, I make my own. It's super easy, but is absolutely one of my favorites on all things BBQ.

I use this recipe. Simple and excellent....

I don't recall even seeing it in the store, though it might be a regional thing and I haven't really looked for it.

I make my own using this recipe:

These two are my favorites both good but different

Sweet Mustard Barbecue Sauce

1 cup cider vinegar

2/3 cup prepared mustard

1/2 cup sugar

2 tablespoons chili powder

1 teaspoon white pepper

1 teaspoon black pepper

1/4 teaspoon ground red pepper

1/2 teaspoon hot sauce

2 tablespoons butter or margarine

1/2 teaspoon worcestershire sauce

Stir together first 8 ingredients in a saucepan over medium heat; bring to a boil, reduce heat, and simmer 10 minutes.
Remove from heat, and stir in butter and Wostershire sauce.

Roxy's Mustard Vinegar Sauce

1 cup apple cider vinegar
1/2 cup Yellow mustard
1/4 cup onion finely minced
2 cloves garlic pureed
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon Tabasco sauce

Combine ingredients and simmer for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
For a smoother sauce, blend on high for a few minutes.

This one is pretty good, I enjoy it if I'm not making my own. It is a NC/SC chain store that is popular.

Mrtodd777 01-08-2014 10:29 AM

All great recipes. Thanks a lot. Cant wait to get out there this weekend and try em out!

Mrtodd777 01-08-2014 10:32 AM

Whats the difference in flavors between those two Bludawg? One sweeter than the other?

bander7003 01-08-2014 10:37 AM

Mine is pretty much like Roxy's above without the cayenne. It's a good recipe.

Grafixgibbs 01-08-2014 10:43 AM

I make my own. I use Dr. BBQ's Big tme BBQ Cookbook recipie with some minor alterations. ie I add honey.
