Drying or "seasoning" wood in the oven?

Has anyone ever done this? I have some maple that I'd like to use this weekend but it has only been cut for about a month. I plan on cutting it into chunks for the UDS. What say you brethren?

i perssonally dont think you will ever get it done like that, it might put a smell in the oven too, if ur single that might be ok... i would say use it as is but use less of it than if you had seasoned wood

If its hard Maple no chance. The Hard Maple I have used takes a year to season. Even harder to splt.

imo, you can't season wood in an oven. you can dry it out, but it won't be the same as letting it age naturally.

I wouldn't use the oven, it may partially dry it if it were in there for a long time, but it would not be seasoned. I would also worry about not being able to get the smell out of the house, or the oven itself as "Grantw" indicated...

fast way to air dry wood

For dry wood fast ,tips from years of cutting, splitting burning wood.
1. Split all wood as whole round wood with bark on drys slowly
2. Stack in Lincoln log fashion one row cross ways, next 90degrees turn
3.Stack where wind blows and sun shines directly on stack.
4. Cover stack top only with tarp, plastic, not over sides.

Dry wood will have deep check(cracks) on the cut ends.
Apple and other real dense woods takes two years to air dry.

Good luck with tips. Mark
