Assassin Smoker - Unpacking and Initial Seasoning
I'm impressed so far. Haven't cooked in it yet, and haven't hooked BBQ guru up to it yet. Was delivered last week, finally unpacked it yesterday, picked up 8 bags of KCB's at Costco and new torch at the Depot, and today I'm doing an initial "seasoning" of the smoker.
Took it apart, wiped it down inside, blew it out real well with my air compressor, then sprayed every part down with Pam. As the instructions state, poured in some KCB's, fired it up with the valve wide open, and she's now smoking away, of course empty and devoid of any meat  The Assassin certainly appears solidly constructed. I had to adjust the slam latch, and the hinge on the fuel chute cover is a little "wiggly" - right now it seems to be working well. I always love photos, so I've uploaded some for anyone who may be considering an Assassin and woiuld like to see more pics. Tomorrow, family and I are headed out of state, but when we get back, I'll be smoking some briskets first. Jeff Conley, the Assassin builder, told me to phone him after receipt of the unit, as he said he'd share some cooking tips with me for the Assassin. So I'll be calling Jeff and getting his tips as well. OK Brethren, here are some pics for your viewing pleasure! Looks great Trey. If I had gone with a gravity fed smoker, the Assassin would have been my choice.

You selling your smoker? I see a Diamond Plate Fat 50 in Rockwall for sale on ebay. What are you / did you buy instead? |
Yep, selling my DPP. Just too big of a smoker for my current needs. I've got a Backyard Bomber MJH on order.
