Turn Weber Kettle to CERAMIC Pizza Oven
pardon my poor English and Photoshop skill.
Basic idea is to make a ceramic barrel.
The barrel will sit on the original fire grate
Coal will be placed inside the ceramic barrel.
Above coal there is a ceramic(or casting iron) fire reflector
0.5" to 1" above the fire reflector, sitting a pizza stone
A little bigger ceramic plate sits on top of the barrel as cover.
In the center of the cover, there is an air outlet.
The bottom of barrel can be ceramic too, but with small holes
This way original fire grate can be removed.
For high temperature grilling, just replace top cover with original grill
If I have size of original fire grate, and height the barreal can reach, I will make a few samples
Is it useful to place a ceramic firebox of kamado directly on air inlet of weber.
This way , you can have higher temperature for grilling.
Also if placing a pizza stone above the fire box, heat distribution inside weber will be more even, and may avoid grease fire.
Will you pay total $75 for a ceramic firebox.
FYI ebay sells at $99 plus $50 economic shipping
Firebox is made from ceramic. there are holes on the bottom
There are semi-round openings on the upper edge.
Pizza stone can sit on the fire box directly. Pizza stone is used as diffuser.
Diameter of fire box 10", height 3", thickness of wall 1/2"
Price $75 and free economic mail.
Have you seen this...
$150 for a 22" kettle on Amazon.
From the looks of it, getting the pizza into and out of the barrel might prove problematic. Will there be a lowering/lifting tool? A peel seems out of the question.
Pizza needs higher temperature.
That middle section can only lower temperature of Kettle
You can use a steel plate, or a casting iron, or a ceramic plate.
The real pizza stone shall be put on regular grill
