Auber PID controller for vertical charcoal smokers

Hi gang.

I have this Master Forge smoker.

http://www.lowes.com/pd_332738-42600...oal&facetInfo=

I am looking at the different temp controller systems out there and I have read good things about the Auber System, I have one of their PID controllers for my Bradley.

Does anyone use this (or any of the other similar systems) for this smoker? Its similar to a WSM, I put the same vents in it for some better control.

The one difference is in the charcoal pan, this one has a pan with vent holes in it where the setup is somewhat different on the weber.

I put a charcoal grate in the bottom of the pan so keep the coals out of the ashes.

What I want to do is to put a hole in the bottom of the unit for the blower, then seal off the vents. I am just not sure how this will work with a seperate pan, I was thinking I could put a bigger hole in it and line it up with the blower so the fan is not blowing onto the pan, but onto the coals instead.

Also, should the blower be below the level of the coals?

I could post a pic if the pan if that would help. The smoker is up at my cabin but i brought the pan home so I could make the grate for it.

thanks for any help on this!!!

I like mine and it is a good no frills controller for the money.
