My next Build.........Opinions wanted
Alright so I am really close to finishing a class that that I am doing for work. I told myself that when I was done I was going to start my next build. Kind of a reward to myself for finishing my class. So here it is:
http://i1126.photobucket.com/albums/...f/a2db2e28.jpg It is a 25 gallon tank. Price was right, it was FREE. The questions i have for all of you are: 1. Horizontal or vertical (leaning toward vertical since I already have an offset) 2. Gas, charcoal, or electric (leaning toward charcoal, already got a gas build) 3. Offset firebox or no firebox (this is if I go vertical) 4. Shelves expanded or steel rod (I am kinda diggin Brother Phrasty's grate http://www.bbq-brethren.com/forum/sh...d.php?t=124230 I would like to use this for cold and hot smoking. I thought going vertical might be a cool thing and give me more grate space. What say you all? |
Why not make a stand for it to raise it up a bit AND have it vertical with a firebox?
Thanks for the props bro! :thumb: Cheers |
I think you should make......it for me :becky:
In all seriousness though, I kinda think it would be a waste of a good tank to build a standard vertical. You can do that with a drum. With the thicker walls of a tank you can hold the heat in an offset. Now, you could mount it to your existing offset as a lower temp warmer/cooker or something. What is the diameter? |
I think you meant 250 gallon.
My son made a 80 gallon vertical, thick wall. It is like big UDS. Has 2 doors. 1 for food, 1 for fuel. The best thing is, the temps is so steady. Set it and forget it. He painted it black & orange. Yours is even taller. You could have 3 or 4 racks in it or maybe a side firebox. http://i1117.photobucket.com/albums/...1/IMG_3289.jpg http://i1117.photobucket.com/albums/...1/IMG_3286.jpg http://i1117.photobucket.com/albums/...r/IMG_3437.jpg |
Sorry for the delay in responses. That four letter word "work" keeps getting in the way.

Diameter is 14 inches. I do not think I would be able to get two racks in it, that is one of the reasons I was considering going vertical. Quote:
