It's been 30 years I've been in Nashville, and I shur do miss the Texas 'Q I grew up with. Nothing much against the pulled shoulder, but I sure like the taste of brisket a lot better. Much of the commercially available pulled pork tastes much like oven roasted. In fact tried a new place at lunch today that came highly recommended, but same thing, I could do as well in an oven. We had a contest at Church a month ago and borrowed a friends road rig - SWWEEEEETTTTT!!! Got 2nd in chicken and 3rd in beef. Got bit again and am look'g to buy a better backyard cooker - something I can do long and low in. Since my extended family comes from Bandera - in fact helped found Bandera I'm thinking seriousely of a NBB or even possibly some of the little more expensive horizontal models found at Academy Sports. Searching for information about the NBB brought me here to the forum. My mom, dad and sisters still live in Texas in Seguin, not but a skip and a jump from NB. I miss the barbecued sausage from Krauses in Downtown NB. Grew up around Texas Hibaches - my grandfathers, my dad, uncles, etc... always had them. Eventually, I will build me a road rig to pull around to different events, maybe a contest or two - if the wife allows me - and yes I am henpecked! I want to do brisket, want to learn to do shoulders/butts better than can be found around here, jalapenos (not necessarily ABT's), and the best ribs I can. So wish me luck! I'm great at grilling and cooking in general, but just learning this 'q stuff.
