2020 Fall SW Bash Planning Thread

Farkers and Farkettes,

Any interest, especially amongst the NM / ABQ area Brethren to potentially convene for food and festivities (CV-19 situation dependent)?

I'm thinking that sometime in October or early November, as it gives us time to plan, but also to watch the public health situation in the state.

Kind regards and thin blue,
Shadow / Marc

I'm up for it, assuming Michelle will allow groups of more than 10 by then:mmph:

Any preference between Weekends in Oct/Nov?

Three-Day-Weekend a possibility in October - F09-Sa10-Su11-M12 vs. F13-Sa14-Su15 in Nov. - Could also ROLEX left to 6-8 Nov if needed. I'm hard to please.

Just taking stock and looking for interest at the moment.

I'm a definite maybe. Lots of vacation to use and nowhere to use it since most things are still closed.

But Brethren Bashes are never closed. Let me know what dates you're looking at.

Sounds great, Andy!

Here's what I've tossed out for discussion thus far:

We'll figure something out.

October date might be fun. Looks like the Albuquerque Balloon festival will be finishing up on the 10th. Any other fun things to do, to eat in the area? Gotta admit after all these years I've only driven through a few times.

Unfortunately, we've learned that the Balloon Fiesta is postponed until 2021 due to.... yes, CV-19. Big letdown here, but understandable.

All sorts of good eats here. Santa Fe, Taos, Ruidoso, hiking, camping, fishing... waiting for my fellow Burqueños to chime in on the subject.

I am definitely interested.

I have a week of vacation that I can't move from 04 through 10 September.
Labor Day is the 7th.

That weekend would work great for me, but I know most other folks probably already have plans.

ABQ is only 4 hours up the road from El Paso so I might be able to make an appearance no matter when it actually goes down.

I'm thinking since the balloon fiasco is cancelled, the October - F09-Sa10-Su11-M12 dates are best. Later is colder, not that October isn't chilly...
Venue options in town are limited if not non-existent, I'll do some research.

It's bloody hot these days, so I seriously look forward to something a bit chilly.

We can build a fire to stay warm. I find it's more difficult to get/stay cool.

Hmm... This would be a back to back to back Brethren Bash Extravaganza.

SW, then Ohio, then Texas. Interesting. Airfare to TX is still cheaper than dirt, Out to ABQ is still a bit higher, but reasonable.

When this happens, I see a seriously reduced attendance.... perhaps just us Burqueños/Burqueñas around a smoker and a 22.5 kettle... and I'm fine with it!

Local park with a picnic shelter for the day on a Saturday? We can make something happen.

If all else fails, I'll look into the park in my neighborhood. Easy access from I-40. Parking by the picnic area. It'll buff out, even just to sit down and enjoy a meal together.

FrkYrPrk 09-26-2020 07:32 PM

I did some poking around - City parks don't allow live fire cooking, all state parks nearby have stage 2 fire restrictions, so propane only.

Then there's the 10 person limit...

Since Carl sold his trailer smoker, he's got more room behind his gate:wink:
I'll talk to Shortfork, we have room as well.

Marc!!!!!!
I just saw this. You know that I'm in. I may have the perfect location. But, I need to check with the boss.

Pig_Farmer 09-27-2020 04:42 PM

Ok. That's a nope for my casa. There has to be somewhere. I will keep my eyes open.
