Buying wood chunks in smaller quantities?
 

Hi everyone, I am new to the forum. You guys seem like a fun and very knowledgeable bunch and I thank you in advance for your help!

I'm looking to buy some wood chunks for my new Kamado (which is being delivered any minute now :biggrin1:). I'd really like some pecan and peach for the Turkey this year, but I'd really like to try out as many varieties as I can, without having to buy 10 lbs. of each one. Does anyone know of a site that sells sample packs? Or if anyone here sells, I would be happy to pay.

Cabelas has a ton of varieties.

I bought from fruitawoodchunks. I think they have a mixed wood chunks pack and I have found the wood to be of good quality.(though a bit on the pricey side)

Try ace hardware stores. They can ship to store for free. Early in the season they may carry inventory. Try the apple, peach and cherry first in chunks. 10 lbs will not last long.

$26.99 for a 10lbs! You need to find a someone local that sells wood.

I was checking out Fruita earlier and they have a $42 pack where you can mix 3, but thats still 20 lbs of wood and they won't include the bourbon in the pack. They also say to store the wood in the fridge...really? 20 lbs. of wood in my fridge? Where's the beer gonna go?

Thanks Rick! I live in Los Angeles, drove to my nearest Barbeques Galore today and found an empty lot. :shock: I really want to get good wood, I may just bite the bullet and order. After all, our Thanksgiving turkey this year just cost me $849 (turkey not included). Why not throw in some fancy wood plus shipping??

Lowes and home depot by me both have chunks from charbroil and webber in small bags.

Oh never mind...they have free shipping. Done!!!

Ebay has a couple of vendors who sell 8 lb boxes for about $20 shipped. Quality is pretty good.

Having said that, I would still consider Fruita. Their prices include priority shipping and their wood is first class quality. I use the bagged chunks from the big box stores to cook at home, but for comps there is no comparison to Fruita. And yes I store it in the fridge...I don't drink beer.
