Vertical Offset smoker
 

I loved cooking on my Bandera. It could be a pain but it was more about what cooking is all about. I do have a set it and forget it for other times. My question: Is there a good quality vertical offset cooker for less than a $1000? I find several manufacturers making an offset with a horizontal cooking chamber between the firebox and what they call a vertical warming box. Google has been no help. I'm not going to be buying soon but I am just trying to find out what's in the market. Thanks for any feedback.

I think this is an under served product market for barbecue pits. Having cooked and eaten from quite a variety of pits, I have to admit that the product from verticals is my very unscientific and purely subjective 'favorite'.

I am surprised there is not a mass market 'bandera clone' of better than average quality available. If there IS, it would be interesting to hear about it.

Stumps used to make one. Maybe he still does. vertical cabinet chamber with an offset stickburner/charcoal firebox (not a GF).

I keep thinking someone on this forum has one........can't remember who it is/was though.

There was MOAB but that was lot more than $1000.

That would be me. This is a STUMPS SW223, vertical offset w/ firbox. Can of coarse use coal or logs...I do both. I bought this 2.5 years ago or so. Stumps said he only made nine of these. He had them priced at $750. He said he lost $ on these as there was a lot more steel used than he originally thought. I talked to him awhile back when I had a question on mine and said he could make them but the price would be greater. They are great smokers. Mobile, 2,000 sq inches of cooking...built like a Stumps(quality) dont know why this model is not an option. Guess everyone is into the GF stuff:cool:

Thanks..the thing I like best..one I love feeding it logs (well most of the time) Evertime I cook brisky on here it just gives a killer smokering. The mobility is awesome. The Pneumatic tires, I can just tilt it back, has the big handle bar and move it around like a dolly. She gets VIP treatment in the garage year round, but is a breeze to move to the back yard for smoking.

That's why I built my GF in 2 pieces. I want to be able to connect up a stickburner firebox, which is on my list of projects....
