Alright, so this is my first official cook on the Phoenix. Occasion: USC vs. Cal and Hawaii vs. Fresno State. Inlaws and I love Q and college football.
Menu: 1 small butt, 2 fatties(one went to the nieghbor who's house gets most of my smoke) one whole butterflied chicken(courtesy of the virtualweberbullit), Shoyu/mayo/ sesame seed cole slaw, and a rack of ribs that went into the trash(don't ask). A celebration of the things I love: Family, Q, beer and college football. Attachment 11079 Attachment 11080 Attachment 11081 Aint she purty! That looks great Kev!! Is that a drip pan in there? You scared to get that "pretty" looking thing dirty?:-PLOL!
I think our Q-back will be out till next year!! There goes our perfect season! |
Looks great Kevin-lose the drip pan!

I forgot, I coolered the butt for about 2 hours. Here it is with the 2 fatties, and when it was pulled.

Dang ya'll er fast!
Why loose the drip pan Brian? I only put it there because I have a tendency to leave the lid open for too long. And DAMN did Colt take a shot or what???? I have never seen a qb get smacked like that? |
Thats the idea of the UDS! Let the fat drip on the fire, and bathe your meat! (that sounded like it should be in woodpile!)
Yeah he did take a shot, hope our season doesn't go down the drain now... but hey 9-0 is pretty good! |
Did they televise it on Kauai? We heard it was blacked out in Honolulu. We were so stoked to get it! This only the second game espn has shown all season, and it was done by the FSU announcers. Sucked, but we din't care.
Ya know, there was a time when all UH games were televised on espn, with Jim Leahy and that guy thats now coach of San Jose State. Colt will be back. June just needs to tell him to stop actin the fool, runnin around like that with all the heisman bs. Just get the first down, and get your ass down! |
Take the damn tag of the valve, Minnie Pearl mod.
Feel the LOVE!!
How far is your lower food grate above the fire grate?
That looks good Single Fin. Ya gotta love the UDS:cool: By the way I like the tag on the valve. Just kidding:icon_bigsmil
Man, I've now broken 2 of the uds by-laws, first with the drip pan and second with the hangy tag........Well, at least I drank the beer correctly..
And I didn't get a single call about using it? Our Kevs is all growed up now!!
Not just yet Bigmista! I've yet to make the uds brisket. Your still in the cell emergency bbq speed dial.
Where does one find them pooper scoopers for clean up? |
Quote:
Fin, what bad thing did you mistakenly spray on the ribs to ruin them? |
i have to make a uds that food looks great
Good looking grub there Fin. Now that UDS isn't all new and shiny except for where the drip pan is...haha just joking. I gotta ask, how did the Rancher cook for ya?
Is the ball value the only air hole ?
Matt, theres 2 other holes on the sides with screw caps. I open the ball valve, and remove the 2 caps and thing gets cranked up to 350 in about 15 minutes.
Bent, when somebody said you get what you pay for they meant it brother! The ribs are the chittiest I've ever seen. Wife talked me into buyin em at Pavilions a few months ago. They were frozen, ten pounds for ten dollars. Super thin, and the only way to cook em is to over cook em. Thank god these no longer in my freezer. Man I'm gettin chit fer dat drip pan... |
How did the "death of an ECB" firebox work out? I just whipped one out this weekend and am kind of wondering if it needs some "donor holes" in the sides for more air
Jealous, is the word here! I got to get a UDS off the ground.
Make sure you take pics! Males are a visual breed.
damn that food looked good! Why am I always here when i'm so farkin' hungry?!
The bottle opener is a nice touch. I mounted one to the side of my gasser facing my smokers. It gets used during every cook.
Lookin good brother!!!
Very nice. You will love it the more you use it!
Thanks......I still have alot to learn though. My first problem is keepin that damn lid closed before it turns into a rocket booster. fin gets lacksidasical after testing the bottle opener a few too many times.......ya know to make sure it works correctly.
Rob- dat Rancher stuff works great! Bag of Rancher included, in all this cook fed 6 people and cost me less than 15 bucks. Of course, my inlaws brought dessert, and the beer flows from my kegerator. |
Kekerator requires a bottle opener?
Cheeeeiiiit....beer dat comes in a bottle is too damn expensive for me, you know that...
Kekerator sustains the cooker thru many a long hour cooks.. |
Wow good looking food. I got a dumb question. How do you get rid of the ash? do you turn it over or what?
Was thinkin of gettin a pooper scooper.
