Coffee Advice Needed

Okay Coffee Guru,

I am not a big coffee drinker. I just have a hard time finding one that I like. What do you suggest for a coffee newbie like me?

Only one coffee is good enough for my cup.

Roastin' Ronnie's.

Nothing gets you up in the morning like Roastin' Ronnie's.

Depeds what you want. I like a strong cup of coffee, and nothing in the cup except coffee. If you want a commercial brand I drank Choc Full of Nuts for years- prob be4cause I worked Psychiatry. Then went to Starbucks which I will still dring but Roastin Rons is much smoother. I did have to get a coffee grinder to drink his but it was worth it. My wife does not agree as it does make a little mess- I am getting better @ clean ups

What is it that you don't like, Lionel? Bitterness? Acidity? That would help a lot.

deguerre 02-17-2011 03:42 PM

Costa Rican any time soon Ron?

Ron_L 02-17-2011 03:49 PM

As a matter of fact...

Costa Rica SHB EP Romelia

Flavor - slight floral, semi-sweet chocolate, Brazil nut. Moderate sweetness

I have 30 lbs on the way. I'll do some as single origin and use some in a blend.

landarc 02-17-2011 03:49 PM

I am with Ron, if Lionel can tell us what he likes and dislikes, a coffee can be suggested. Method makes a difference as well.

landarc 02-17-2011 03:53 PM

Oooo, fancy Costa Rican...is there any Papua New Guinea coming? Can we start requesting origins? Well, back to Lionel's needs.

I think he would like Costa Rican or Colombian from a pour-over station.

Papau New Guinea Goroka
Huge tropical fruit notes, very juicy mouthfeel, and a really well composed finish.

50 lbs. ordered a few minutes ago. PNG is my favorite. I also ordered 50 lbs. of a nice Rwandan. A PNG-Rwanda blend is a thing of beauty.

I think Colombian, CR or Brazil are pretty neutral and most folks like them. Island coffees like the PNG are also a well balanced cup and appeal to a lot of tastes.

I'll start a Coffee Origin Request thread so they don't get lost. I can't guarantee that I'll be able to get them, but I can keep my eye out.

I am good with the PNG/Rwandan, I do not believe I have had Rwandan. I do really like PNG, both single source and in blends. The PNG Goroka sounds great.

deguerre 02-17-2011 04:29 PM

And I've never had PNG. However, Rwanda still makes me shudder...the country, not the coffee.

I don't drink coffee but I thought I just mention I love to read the passion you all have about coffee.

If there's ever an artisanal root beer or Ginger. Ale thread I'll be able to play.

I just picked up some River City root beer. But, I really need to make some more Gnome #1 Root beer.

Wow, go away for a weekend and it comes out! Usually most coffee I have tried is too bitter to me. There has been a few that I had that people blended themselves that were great. Usually when I drink coffee, i like coffee with my sugar just to get the bitter out. I am up for trying anything though.
