Pork ribs.... Spares vs Baby Backs
Baby backs cost more. Spares are bigger and have more meat. It's often said that u get what you pay for? Which rib is the better buy? Why?
I've eaten baby backs, but have never cooked them. I've only bought spares, and I think they (mine) are better than any baby backs I eaten. I might be biased though. :icon_blush: So again, which rib is the better buy and why? Thanks in advance |
I buy spares normally, baby backs occasionally, I prefer spares. Why, because, so there.
|
I make mostly spares, they are cheaper and more readily available here.
The rib tips make a great cook on their own also. :thumb: I like baby backs too though. |

I prefer to eat Baby Backs as they are not as fatty, and IHMO simply taste better. Cooking for the masses, ie parties, etc., it is spares because of the money.
|
The women in my family prefer BB's. I don't know why.
|
I love the taste of baby backs and the fact that they have less fat BUT spares seem to make my farts more explosive x10. So I will normally giggle like a school girl as I reach for spares when I shop......
|
I like the taste of both, but given a preference I prefer less fatty meats (after cooking), therefore I prefer BB's. By the time you St. Louis the spare the price is alllllmost the same as BB's. Prefering BB's, when cooking for parties and masses I always put on the "glam" and never cut corners, so I cook BB's...
Many people like/prefer the taste of spares; nothing wrong with that. Go with your preference. You'll never fail doing this. |
I like 'em both but Spares usually cost about 1/3 less so I tend to by more spares.
|
Get whichever looks better when it's time to buy. :-P
If the BB's look better, don't buy the spares just because you were "shopping for spareribs" that day. Best meat wins. |
I cook spares. Done BBs a few times but were never quite liked how they turned out. Maybe because I've always done spares. Who knows.
I like the spares better because they tend to be meatier and bigger than BBs. I also don't cut spares down to STL cut. I trim up any hard fat but thats about it. Plus I LOVE rib tips! They are a nice snack! |
i prefer spares. all the cook kids buy spares.
|
I prefer spares but the family prefers baby backs. Either way, cook 'em right and they are good eating.
|
Spares trimmed up St Louis style.
