Hey all.....

I'm going to be taking the ServSafe class/exam soon to get certified. I was looking and see that they have an online class and also a "regular" text as well. I'm going to be doing some vending and catering this year with a fellow brethren and we were just talking and wondering if there was any other Brethren who may have these books/resources that would be willing to loan them out or sell at a discount instead of having to buy them at full price?

It's the cheap bastige in me I guess....:tape:

Just wondering. Any advise on saving money on this kind of thing would be much appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Around here the course is given at a Community college, cost was do-able. I'm thinking about $175? The book comes included in the cost of the class/test/certification and is really not much of a text. It is a paper back that is just 5/8" thick and measures 8 1/2" x 11". You will want to keep the book as there are practice tests and some really fine photography in it!

The value of the class is the certification, not the book.

You have to take the class to take the test. The book is part of the class.

According to this website:
http://www.indianarestaurants.org/ServsafeFAQ.asp#costs

...there's a book and an online course. This is the info I was going off of.

Obviously, the class and cert is the whole point of it, which I plan to do, just wondering if there was a way to save some dough. If the text is valuable to have even after the class, then I'll just go that route. I just figured that if this was a book that once you're certified, is a dust collector, then I'd take it off someone's hands. I'm not interested in taking the class just to get the book, but figured the book would help with passing the test.

Also.....is the exam pretty much one of those general knowledge things? I mean, not that anyone would know, but if you're at all in tune with what you need to do to exhibit safe food handling practices, are you pretty much OK?

Thanks for the input.

You wont save any money as you get the book with the class. If you can find one to study out of for free it will give you a head start but i found the test to be pretty much common sense.
If i can find mine i will let you borrow it. I havent opened it up since taking the test but it is something i'll want to look at before taking my refresher.

Gotcha.

I'm really not all that worried and if I get the book anyway, then that's cool. If you find it, great. If not, no worries.

Thanks for the help!
