Does IBP sell Berkshire Ribs pork?

I went to a local meat establishment in Houston yesterday and they have Berkshire printed in sharpie marker on the cryovac. So I take a closer look and it says IBP but nowhere does it say what type of pork they are. Only what the owner of this well known establishment has written on the cryo.

He is selling the ribs for 6.99/lb.

So those of you in the know does IBP sell this high quality meat?

I don't think they do. They don't have the facilities to accomplish this. Berkshire are a boutique breed that are raised on small smaller farms and processed at local lockers and smaller processors. I used to work in the receiving yards at the Storm Lake, Iowa plant. We would take in 10,000 head a day and did not sort by breed. I would be surprised they would change this, now that they are owned by Tyson.

That sounds awfully fishy to me.

Highly unlikely- most Berk producers use specific processors, usually under some type of premium agreement. With ribs it would be easier to pass them off, as there is very little difference in ribs between common breeds and Berk. Shoulders and bellies, now that's a different story. The color and marbling look very different than common breed pork.
My $.02 anyway...

Ask to see the cases they came in-

I would agree with Swamprb. I too was in this situation recently when I was purchasing ribs for them to tell me they went to Farmland Duroc. I had no idea Farmland even had Duroc pork. I asked to see the box it came in a sure enough, box had a Farmland DURoC Pork label. Went home and looked it up on wtheir website and they do sell Duroc pork. And they never changed my pricing either which was dumbfounding to me as well.
