Theres a problem my old stainless steel weber performer. When ever i twist the propane tank valve a rush of propane that comes out of the bypass on the propane tank valve. The hose is on tight and im pretty sure its not leaking from the hose. Just so theres no confusion, i have the little 1 gallon propane tanks, not the green disposable ones.

Please help! I want to use my propane feature!

I'm only used the typical Lowes or Home Depot disposable propane tanks from the welding section. Never had a problem.

From your description, it sounds like a problem with the tank valve? Can you look for leaks with some soapy water?

+1 on soap and water. I hope you can fix it with over the counter parts because Weber don't stock the igniter parts for the older performers. Mine didnt have any of the parts when I found it, but it is pretty easy to cobble something together. This is a regulator off an old junk tabletop grill that I didn't use anymore.
