I'm gonna have to give this one a try myself.... I love peach and this sounds like a pretty sweet (literally) baked beans recipe :)

Wampus 05-09-2011 10:30 AM

Yes.....very sweet. But more than just that, there's something unique about the flavor. I get hints of the garlic, the bourbon, the peach, the mustard, but (IMO) not too much of just one thing.

My favorite thing about it (if I had to pick one) is the pieces of fatty you come across in a bite.

Seriously hoping folks check this out and follow up with me with HONEST feedback.

Too sweet?
Good balance of flavors?
Too much of one thing or another?
Just right?

Let me know y'all!:thumb:

Ok subscribed to this thread to try out your recipe soon. I recently picked up the FD apricot bourbon sauce and loved it. It's on manager's special sale at my local Kroger.

Another bullet in the bandolero,
just in time for the summer season.
Thanks for sharing.

Think I'll try this but start with cooking my own dried navy beans first and draining them. I know it'll be too sweet for Redhot's tastes so I may cut back on the brown sugar, use Dancing Pigs hot for the sauce cuz that's one of the Famous Daves not carried here that I can find and maybe add some cayenne.

Dude! Sounds great. I have a similar recipe. I use either Bush beans or plain ol pork-n-beans and rinse them in a colander to remove the juice they are packed in and then start from there. Your recipe sounds good I will try.

Wampus 05-09-2011 05:27 PM

I think the next time I do them I'll do the samy Guerry. Only THIS time I'll PROPERLY soak and cook th dried beans.

This last time they ended up very sweet and I think that would be cut back with the use of "plain" dried beans vs canned baked beans.

Let me know what you think!

I tried these yesterday and they were AWSOME!!! The only thing I did different was the bbq sauce. I used my homemade Spicy Apple BBQ suace (a recipe I got here).

If I were to change anything, I think I'd try adding another can of beans. There's so much other good stuff going on in there, the beans almost seem to take a back seat. But I'm definately doing this again. Thanks Wampus!

You could always go the route of buying the beans dry, soaking them over night, drain them, and them start the cooking. I buy black beans & great northern beans dry & do just that for a black bean stew & ham & navy bean soup all the time. You can also get dry kidney beans, so maybe a combination of these beans would work out in your recipe.

I'll give it a try, I made pork and beans last week, same problem,"beans were tough"
I didn't soak them long enough, then over cooked the spices trying to soften the beans, but it made a good bean dip for scoops.

I'll let ya know how I do with your recipe.

I made these a couple months back. My wife and her cousin didn't care them at all (guys didn't mind them), I think it's because they were just so different from the normal baked bean we eat in Texas. This was more like dessert for us I guess.
