Long Island Comps (June)

Hi,

There are two events right around the corner that are looking for teams. Both events are on June 10th. Both are great for new teams. Both will have a Brethren presence. Both are in Nassau County.

1) The Long Island Kosher Championships are looking for one team in Westbury. They were full, but a team had to drop due to a family matter. This is going to be a great, fun event. Everything is provided for you, just come down and cook (ok, bring a tent and a chair).

2) Alpers Hardware is running a ribs and chicken contest in Port Washington. They need a few more teams. It's a very casual contest. Great for newbies.

Buenos Diaz took second in chicken in Port Washington and I (and team) took fifth brisket/sixth beans at the kosher event.

The Kosher event was a LOT of fun and possibly the best run first event I've ever been to. Marvin and his crew did a great job.

^^^^ that cheshire cat smile is due to the overcooked dry thighs I submitted after being told our turn in was pushed back nearly 40 minutes while the WSM was already cranked up to 325 and final glaze was set.

Actually, I enjoyed the company of the Grill Scouts, always a pleasure to be their neighbors, as well as the cameo appearance of the poobah. The steady funny helped nurse a serious hangover. That and a gallon of iced coffee.
