Non-BBQ in Austin

Going to Austin later this week for the first time. I'm going to hit plenty of BBQ spots (Franklin, La Barbecue, Snow's, Valentina's) but I'm looking for some non-BBQ places to hit as well.

What are some can't miss tex-mex or taco places? Non-touristy live music venues? Other can't miss restaurants/bars?

Only in town for a few days but trying to pack in as much as possible.

I know it isn't "fine dining" or anything, but one of my favorites in Austin (when I want a break from BBQ) is Homeslice Pizza. There are great taco places all over Austin. Not sure I've ever had a bad one there.

Dai Due is a great spot for dinner. The venison ceviche is killer. They also have a taqueria now but I haven’t been there yet.

Torchy's tacos! Kinda non-traditional tacos but farking delicious.

Had a great chicken fried steak dinner at Hyde Park Bar & Grill last year. Taco More has a couple locations and I've eaten there a couple times and really enjoyed it.

You should try VIA 313 for Detroit style pizza. I like the detroiter or the four cheese. They cook them in blue metal auto parts pans and the cheese gets caramelized and delicious.

I was just there a couple weeks ago. Several friends in the area told me to make sure I try Bangers. Place was totally packed on a Thursday when I tried going there. I stopped at Matt's El Rancho, I had the Asadero Tacos, killer! Stopped for lunch with a local friend at Casino El Camino, hole in the wall bar, GREAT burgers! Had a couple people tell me the Texas Chili Parlor was great, but a few others said it was only so so. Didn't have a chance to stop there.

Thanks for the advice! Made it to Homeslice, Pelons, Granny's Taco, Las Trancas, and a few other food trucks. All of them were great. Had beers at Bangers but none of their food, but the venue is incredible! Went to Franklin's on Friday then ran out to Snow's Saturday morning. Apparently the week before Thanksgiving is the weekend to go to Snow's, we got there a little after 7am and were first in line. Already planning another trip down.
