Mothers day ham, need sides.

Gonna smoke a ham on mothers day, but at a blank with sides:roll:

Something I can do in the over would work best.

Any ideas other then stuffing?

Grilled asparagus and scalloped potatoes top the scalloped potatoes with bacon!!!!!

Wampus 05-09-2013 10:08 AM

Why not try my Award Winning Peach Bourbon Baked Beans?

You CAN do them in the oven, although I usually smoke em for a little extra flavor.

^^^^^ +1

Ham and baked beans (Especially Wampus' recipe) is like oil and vinegar. A perfect match. Oh, and garlic/parsley mashed potatoes...

Heck I'm gonna try your peach bourbon baked beans. That sounds awesome. Thanks for the recipe.

I thought of a side I make only during the holidays. Amazing mashed potatoes!! They are so rich and creamy and moist and full of flavor. Allrecipes has the recipe. http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Holiday...es/Detail.aspx I add a few of my own touches everytime I make them. Enjoy!

Happy Smoking

These are great choices. Homemade Mac & Cheese is another great choice with ham. I've been using Gnocchi instead macaroni lately and my kids love it!

Nothing goes better with ham than mac n cheese.

No boil version.

Mix 1 box of macaroni noodles with 2 cups shredded cheddar, salt and pepper in a pan.

Pour in enough milk to cover the noodles. I like to use whole milk.

Lay about 8 pats of butter over the top and bake it for an hour at 350*.

If not Wampus' beans, then Keri C's Hog Apple Beans!

That actually sounds pretty good. Add some dried jalapeno and red pepper flakes, use half n half...and I don't even really like mac n cheese.

You left out the Crumbled Fatty and "I second that emotion" on the Wampus's Beans.

I think ham and beans is a great combo, I also like to see greens, with a vinegar sauce, to cut some of the fat and sugar. And biscuits, good biscuits.

deguerre 05-09-2013 01:29 PM

OOOOooooooooo...collards, pot likker, green pepper hot sauce (You know the kind, pure little green peppers whole in the jar with vinegar) and corn bread.

Yes, nothing wrong with kicking it up a notch. I know LMAJ makes a similar recipe also, but she does something a little different but I can't remember what.

All I know is it's much better when my mom makes than if my brother or I make it. She usually makes it in a bowl though, maybe that's it.

funugy 05-09-2013 03:45 PM

I like rice and grilled asparagus.

Sway 05-09-2013 10:48 PM

Both those Beans sound really good, now I have to pick one:doh:
