That's 1 Ugly Drum...Being Seasoned
Simple drum, burned it out, power washed.
3 x 1" holes for intake charcoal grate mounted 3" from bottom on 4x4" SS lag bolts charcoal ring is 15" D x 8"H expanded metal. need to bolt the ring and charcoal grate together. top grate is 8" from top, mounted on 4x2.5" ss bolts(not in yet) rubbed inside with veg oil and dumped in 3/4 Weber chimney hot coals. added 4 chunks of cherry wood. this thing can get up in temp! shot up 330 and hung out. used magnets to cover 2 intakes and dropped 260 in 20 min and hung out. removed magnets and back up to 320. been there for 30 min and now slowly dropping. looking for a Weber Kettle on CL for the parts and will mount another grate 2" from top. will add pipe and valves for intake at some point and need to paint it. probably need a side shelf for therms, mitts, tongs, tools. all in good time. maiden cook is going to be a 5# bone in turkey breast on Saturday. http://i.imgur.com/CUAerq2l.jpg here is the drum before i set a monster blaze in it http://imgur.com/a/aP33k happy smokin' all! |

Ugly will turn out some pretty tasty food.

Good luck with it. I have a $3,200 Competitor, but would never trade my UDS when it comes to brisket and butts. The UDS is a bark-making machine. Just be careful with how long you have the lid off when checking, pulling or mopping meat. The temp will take off on you quick once it starts gulping air!
