Hallsville, Mo, Feb 11 & 12, 2011

Is anyone doing the Polar Bear comp at Hallsville on Feb 11 & 12? I'll be there to judge this one to start off the year - cabin fever mod :bored:. Does anyone know of a cheap motel near there?

mobow 01-27-2011 06:27 PM

columbia is just a short shot from there. that will be your best variety of choices. wife and i are judging as well. keith

Give Aimee a call @573-449-3056. I talked to her yesterday & she said that three judges had cancelled.

I tried emailing her but i havent received a response. guess she is burried in snow.

PigBoy 02-05-2011 09:53 AM

Called Aimee today. At this point has about 10 extra judges possibly, but with weather you never know. I am thinking about coming out Sat. morning and seeing if she needs any help, otherwise will just hang out and watch awards. Good luck to all!

Solidkick 02-08-2011 06:30 AM

See you there Dave! You should get some pretty good Q this weekend. I'm trying to stay positive, it is going to be a weekend out of my comfort zone in more ways than one.

mobow 02-08-2011 07:34 AM

looks like we may slip into some decent weather for the contest. 30 degrees Friday 40 degrees Saturday. keith

spicewine 02-08-2011 08:27 AM

Still trying to get a Bobcat to dig my cooking trailer out of the snow pile.

Three porks 02-08-2011 08:42 AM

Nice choice!! You know that was Al Capone's drink of choice!

Rookie'48 02-09-2011 12:41 AM

I don't quite know how to take that! LOL

mobow 02-11-2011 12:09 PM

Good luck to everyone. Looks like it will be cool but not stupid cold. keith

Solidkick 02-13-2011 04:12 PM

We finished in the top half, I was OK with that. For those of you that cooked through Nov-Feb, it was obvious in your results. We had to cook without Sweet T, who was still down with the flu. Timing was a little off on most everything we did, and the cold weather didn't help. We tried to do a little visiting Friday night, but most were inside out of the weather.
Good to see Dave and the Templeton's, glad you came to judge the contest.
Being consistent in all 4 categories is what wins contests and Swine Assassins brought it in all 4, congrats on the 696 overall.
Out of town teams came to Mid-Missouri and did a good job this weekend. It's tough to come here and win.
Congrats to all that walked.

We helped judge this one. Had a great time it out and seeing everyone. We had some good Q on our table and I had fun judging for my first time ever. Some tough competition and good teams were there for sure. I sure felt for the teams cooking, it was a mess in the mud and water and probably made for a long cook slopping around in the wet and cold. We stayed for awards and had fun cheering everyone on that walked. Congrats to everyone that walked - it was a TOUGH field!

Our chicken box was dropped after turn in and they judged it As Is. Pretty sad. Even got a comment card that said we needed to spend more time on box appearance because it looked like we just threw it in the box. Go figure:crazy:

that sucks!!!

Chucktown 02-14-2011 07:42 PM

Was the box dropped by one of the reps or a table captain? If so, you should have received all 9's on appearance scores. Was there a reason given why it was judged as is?

Rookie'48 02-14-2011 11:55 PM

What a way to blast off the ol' cobwebs! I had a great time seeing old friends & meeting new ones. There was some serious compition here this weekend and some very good tasting entries. Congrats to all who got a call!

Sorry to hear that Spicewine. If the rep had known I think they would have gave direction to do something different. A tray of ribs got spilled but it was after appearance scores had been completed. The rep was over there in a flash and got the boxes all squared away. Only one box came open and it spilled the ribs on the floor. The rep said he would taste the ribs and give them a score for any judge that did not want to eat food that had been on the floor. All the judges were sure the 20 second or 10 minute rule was in effect and scored them on their own. I thought they should get a round of applause for dedication.
