Building a uds
Getting started on a uds and was wanting to know if the red paint inside the drum needs cleaned out?I will burn it first with wood to clean it but does all the red stuff need to go?
|
Yup the red liner needs to go.
Burn it out then wire brush it out. Or sandblast it. |

It is a real pain. Trust me, I've done at least 6 of them... but have fun.
|
Fine someone to sand blast it. I did cost me $45. For the inside and out no burning required

Burning it out will barely touch the chit, and even using stripper takes tons of extra elbow grease to get it all out. I spent the better half of a day laying in my drum with a wire wheel on my grinder getting the last of that chit out-mind you this was after a hot burnout and a stripper treatment too- it farking SUCKED. I'd gladly pay $50 to get it media blasted if I could do things over. If only I had a DeLorean... |
It needs to be removed and trust me and the others that have said the same. ITS A PITA TO GET OUT! Id suggests finding someone to sandblast it. If you cant than burn it a few times and get it real hot than get to work with a wire cup brush or flap discs on a grinder or drill. If your using the flat lid dont burn that as it will warp it.

Dang near worth finding an unlined drum even now.
|
The rust inhibitor lining is a piece of cake...do you have pics?
|
no pics yet. i will check what it is and what was in it.
