World Championship Steak Cookoff

Ray has pictures... of him and attractive women. And he's happy to show them... But I'm saying even with the pictures, that never happened! :)

Way to go Ray..great job. It took you this long to find out where you finished? I hope KCBS doesn't go to this awards format!!

Care to share any tips?

Hide from the guys across the street that have been drinking since 6 AM the day before, while you prep your meat:wink:

Had a great time, and my wife's family (they are 20 minutes from Magnolia) is still talking about the steaks that Ray cooked for them. We finished loading Ray's van after 9PM, my wife and I got home around 3 PM the next day. For dinner I had to cook a steak like Ray did the day before.

I'd go back again.

how many pounds of steak did you guys end up cooking?

why did it take so long to find out the results? and congratultions

The judging system, as far as results, is about the same as they use in IBCA cooks. I haven't seen the results on the website for the event, so I suspect that Ray either called, or they called him for something and he provided his number to get his results. If you don't know your # you are screwed as far as results go.

The top 5 got trophies and checks at the awards ceremony, along with awards for booth, parade and show. They told us they'd have the rest of the scores up on the website coinciding with the ticket numbers. I emailed yesterday asking when that would happen and David, the guy who ran it told me they hoped to have them up today, but I'd previously told him my number so today he told me I was 9th.

We cooked 30 16oz ribeyes which is the minimum that you must cook. There's plenty of time to do it though. We used one large and one medium egg and could have easily cooked another dozen steaks.

I would also add, Don't fark with DrBBQ when he's in the zone with a knife in his hand:biggrin:

It was really great meeting both Ray and Jorge. Unfortunately, family commitments only allowed me to spend a couple of hours and then I had to head back to Monroe. Next year though I plan to have a full day set aside.

I didn't get many pics but here are a couple of my favorites from the parade.
This couple were from St Francisville, La and they told me they cook at this contest every year

and here is the good Dr and Jorge. Looks like a drive by looking for a place to happen:biggrin:

Jorge looks right at home there in the van and I just know how much he loves to drive vans.:p:mrgreen:

Amazingly we didn't win any awards in the parade division. One of the competitors said it looked like a child molester van! I really need a new ride.

It didn't help with Jorge in the drivers seat either
