Northern California has some BBQ joints. Not a lot. I was happy to see a new place open near by. However I am thinking that some of the customers might not be used to BBQ with this warning. Attachment 76047

Only in Cali!! LOL!

Pyle's BBQ 02-19-2013 09:57 PM

Not only in CA. There are people all over that think the meat is not done. That is a general notice I have seen before.

BBQ Bandit 02-19-2013 09:59 PM

Yup... that's the clue some people do not know what bbq is or what it looks like.

When I smoke burgers for a crowd I always explain this.

The smoked tri-tip was quite pink and quite tasty.

There is a place around here where the wait staff asks if its your first time there or not. If it's your first time, they verbally give you the same warning.

Big M1ke 02-19-2013 10:16 PM

I've seen that around here before as well.

Thought you were talking about the fact that a bbq place has Cafe Latte and Cafe Mocha on the menu :-P.

It is a bare bones place I thought that was odd also. Although here in Cali you can get a Latte almost anywhere.

Maybe they got sued.

landarc 02-19-2013 11:29 PM

No, what happened is what happened at Matt's, folks return the meat. It only takes one or two days of folks bringing meat back, wanting their money refunded, saying it is red and they don't eat raw meat to make you put a sign on the menu explaining the smoked meats have a smoke ring and a reddish hue..

And it isn't just here in California, as much as you guys love to poke at us, you might want to remember that around half of our population is less than one full generation from immigrating here. I know more people from the south and east here, than I know born here. Further, I think this is more of a comment on how few places really smoke their meats, that the idea of a reddish hue to the meat, or a smoke ring, confuses people.

FLAQUE 02-19-2013 11:31 PM

I've seen it in Florida especailly with poultry. We just have to eduacate the masses!

Pyle's BBQ 02-19-2013 11:37 PM

Bob is right. Places in the "big city" have these signs because people don't know any better.

I was pointing out that the OP is not just a Cali thing.

I know how you Cali guys like being called Cali.
