Yeah, I was taling to Mark Born on Saturday night and evidently there is some sort of bug in the proprietary KCBS scoring software, where every once in awhile it will score people all zeros even if you entered everything in correctly. They are working to get it fixed. At this comp there were I think twelve teams in pork this happened to, and with the rush to get the results in so everyone could go home, they did not catch it until it was too late. Really sucks for all the people who got there names called, but now have to send their money back, but it was an honest mistake, and now it is important for KCBS to take the time to get things right. Hopefully they will also be able to find that bug in the program sooner than later so this doesn't happen again.

I am sorry to hear of the problems at MN in May. From the preliminary reports it appear to be simple human error. The software has been used at over 1000 contests. We have found that each time there is a situation it was as a result of all us being human and under a time constraint to get results done timely. The program has the ability to identify such errors as the errors which appear to have occurred at this contest.
In addition, KCBS does have a audit policy and this contest will be sent to Linda for verification.
It is great to have members who understand we can all make a mistake. We appreciate the support of the contest as well as KCBS.

I am waiting to hear an official explaination from Perry, BUT from my score sheet, even if the Heat is On got a perfect 36 on their entry that was listed as 0, I still come out .5716 or something like that ahead of them in pork assuming my scores are all correct. I guess until they can tell me my scores and Mark's scores then we have to take their word, but I personally want to know what the scores were, then I will be satisfied.

Yesterday the organizer emailed out a copy of the corrected pork and overall score sheets. It did show that the Heat Is On moved into first place pork so congratulations to Mark.
The strange thing though, is the glitch appeared to be putting 0's in for judge 6. However, it appears the glitch was more than that as my score fell by more then 2 points overall and more than one judge score was impacted.
So, based on Turk's suggestion above, I contacted KCBS and they are looking into what the problem was and what is correct. I had called and emailed the contest organizer for more details and still am waiting for a response. So at this point I will just wait to see what KCBS does.
I had alreeady deposited my check on the way home so I didnt lose it, so if I did finish second I will just send the difference.
This contest has the setup for a lot of nice things but they have some major damage control to take care of.

My problem with the whole thing is that you have Merl saying its a Human Error and then we get Perry's description Saying " Thankfully it wasn't a HUMAN Error and it WAS a computer error????????? Come on. It didnt impact me very much, I still got a call out of it. But Buster Dog, wow.
