Camping with the large BGE...

2 Attachment(s)
The one thing I hate about camping, is having to use a small weber grill, or park provided grill to cook out on. I had a spare large Big Green Egg laying around, so I thought... How could I get this heavy cooker to the lake with me. So, I made this swing out egg carrier. It works great, and now I have the excellent cooking abilities of the egg at the lake! Cant wait to go camping and try it out!

Having a spare large BGE attached to a camper qualifies you for baller status.

Lol, I wouldnt call it "baller status". I cant pass up a good deal. This BGE came up on craigslist for $400 last year, loaded with accessories. So, I had to have it. Then a couple months ago, another large egg came up on craigslist, like brand new, used 2 times, with all the accessories for $250! So, I just had to have it too! Thanks to craigslist, I now have a nice collection of smokers and grills lol.

Spare BGE laying around, some folks have all the problems!,

That looks good, just be careful cause that could be a lot of weight on the bumper of the camper. I can't really see how you have it attached. I had a bumper on my camper with a basket on it to haul my COS , and as light as it was it twisted the bumper and cooker was dragging the ground.

I like it! And you'll never need that spare tire for the camper anyway :).

Camping is just so much better with an egg or two :eusa_clap I usually take my medium and/or mini BGE's,but for cub-scout trips,I take the XL

Fantastic, now that is how you camp!

You will have to watch the speed bumps and pot holes or you will probably break the inner lining.

I would store the, firebox, ring and plate setter inside the camper so they won't break while traveling. also make sure the lid is secure and not bouncing around. I hope it works for you.

I weigh 260lbs, and I hopped up and down on the carrier, and it took the weight fine. I welded the brackets to the bumper, and tied the pivot area in right where the bumper meets the frame rail. Its super sturdy. I will take a couple better pictures when there is more light.

I am going to shape a 4x4x? block of wood so that i can set it on top of the cooking grate, and when the lid is shut, it clamps the block between the lid and the grate. The lid is held down with a bungee, the lid holds the block of wood, the wood holds the grate, grate holds the platesetter, platesetter holds the ring, ring holds the charcoal bowl snugly down to the bottom of the egg. As long as the pieces dont have the ability to clap together over bumps, they should all be fine. Hopefully!

The spare tire is getting relocated below the LP tank in the front of the camper.
