I had a moment of weakness. Count me in for a MAK 2 Star with 3/4 top shelf and cover. Mine ships out tomorrow. Robb, thanks for putting this together and being such a strong proponent for this great company and thanks to everyone at MAK for showing us the love. Caleb and his team are great to work with.

It's good to be back.

3 more to go and every single person that has purchased through this deal will get a $75 MAK store credit. Anymore fence sitters out there. C’mon down, your butts gotta be hurting by now anyway :-)

Caleb walks out the door of MAK HQ in less than 5 hours [emoji27]

Mike Twangzer 03-12-2020 02:23 PM

I'd love a MAK ..... but can't I just find someone close to me and just go over occasionally to eat ? or pick up and take home ?:-D

$75 credit would be nice! How are the sear grates compared to the regulars?

They are thick anodized aluminum and get hotter than blazes! I love them for grilling. Here’s some quick weeknight chicken thighs I did the other day. Pellet Boss controller set to 450°, but sear grates MUCH hotter than that as the Flame Zone covers were off. You’ll typically see temps at the main cooking grate level run about 125-150° hotter than what the controller displays when you have the Flame Zone covers removed. That’s a good thing when grilling... and I am not even talking about the sear grates, but just the ambient temp.

Here’s an IR gun right on the surface of the sear grate with the Pellet Boss controller set to 450°. The sear grates absorb every ounce of the heat and then some :)

I recently sold my 26 kettle with a ton of accessories. Could count the times on 1 hand I used it in the past 12 months. It was a great grill, but 9.8/10 times I preferred the MAK to it. To each their own... totally understood :)

Sooner21 03-12-2020 03:36 PM

Well I'll have some comparing coming up of my own. Really looking forward to the versatility of the MAK.

No more takers the last couple hours? Sitting at what? 22? Still quite a showing from the Brethren for being pricey.

Yep, sitting at 22. I know for a fact that there Brethren still on the fence. Totally cool and zero pressure, but Caleb is clocking out in less than 3 hours. Hint, hint ;-)

gben 03-12-2020 04:28 PM

Mak 1 Star ordered, full upper grate. Waiting is the hardest part

rwalters 03-12-2020 04:28 PM

UPDATE: Sitting at 24 new MAK owners as of 2:27pm(PST). 2.5 hours to go. 25 should be a slam dunk... lets shoot for 30. $100 store credit for all :)

Congrats and welcome to the MAK family!! And a warm welcome to the Brethren :)

Whatcha been cooking on up to this point?

gben 03-12-2020 04:31 PM

Weber 22 kettle, so this is a quantum leap!

gben 03-12-2020 04:32 PM

And thanks for the welcome, I'll be sure to make full use of the knowledge here regarding the Mak, cooking tips etc

Z1006 03-12-2020 04:33 PM

Wow, my account got validated just in time to ask a couple quick questions! I've been lurking in this thread (and the forum) for a while.

I have a gasser (Weber) and a kamado (Vision). Debating picking this up mostly because the Vision is kind of a pain with air escaping, even after trying all of the sealing tricks in the book.

So now I'm debating a MAK 1 star. Can anyone tell me how these do for pizzas? I find myself using the vision for that, but having a second grill / smoker to do them would be awesome.

Last question - will I still be happy with the 1 star? I'll use it primarily for smoking, but if I like that, I'd use it for grilling as well. I assume I'll need the sear grates.

GrantAshton 03-12-2020 04:39 PM

I did my first MAK cook last night and my second will be going on in about 20 minutes. I’ll post some details tonight or tomorrow in the Appreciation thread.

Presale on a Mini MAK and I'm in, I really don't need it right now or the next year or so for that matter but I'll plop some coin down on one at a discount. MAKE IT HAPPEN ROBB!

Just a heads up... the MAK and kettle play very nicely together :-)

gben 03-12-2020 05:30 PM

So I've heard! Now all I have to do is find a good source for pellets, there are no Academy stores within 250 miles, Dicks Sporting goods yes, but then I need to discover what brand and at a reasonable price that play nice with the Mak. Which ones ash more than others, impart more or less smoke, lots to find out.

I see you are in NE Ohio. Where specifically? I have an avid MAK buddy in NE Ohio. May be able to get you some great info if you two live nearby.

I'm extremely fortunate to have Rural King right down the road.

Is Wooster Ohio within driving distance?

rwalters 03-12-2020 06:43 PM

15 minutes to go and the official number of new MAK family members is sitting at 27. Sooooo awesome! Anyone else? Tick tock, tick tock...

Jcmhc 03-12-2020 06:55 PM

Timing isn't right for me to hop in, but I'll buy one eventually!

That's pretty darn impressive when you think of the financial commitment it takes to buy a MAK, be it the 1 or 2 Star, was thinking when this all started it would be great if they sold 10 units.

Power of the Brethren, hopefully MAK finds value in becoming a site sponsor and regular participant.

It's been a wild week with all of this on top of regular business and we're thrilled to have participated.

I look forward to seeing everyone's cooks and enjoyment of the MAK and I plan to become a regular participant in this forum. I'll make sure we discuss sponsorship. Please feel free to reach out to me anytime for any MAK / BBQ related reason.

rwalters 03-12-2020 07:12 PM

The phone rang at 5pm at MAK. They answered. We are now at 28 :)

Who the heck made that 5 o’clock call?!?! LOL.

#kingofprocrastination

jstrand 03-12-2020 07:12 PM

Not bad at all considering the state of things, people buying all the tp and hand sanitizer. Roughly 80k worth of cookers sold.

I'm so sad I couldn't get in on this.

There is a Rural King there. Best deal I believe you’ll find on Lumberjack pellets. That’s what my buddy uses and that’s where he gets them. I don’t use LJ, but lots of guys really like them. Is there a Rural King closer to you?

Lees23 03-12-2020 07:20 PM

Curious what the actual deal was....

It was something that MAK Grills did not want published and they rarely if ever do this type of thing. They had requested that each person interested call in to discuss. I do know that the deal was consistent for each person that bought... as that is the way MAK does things. Great people!

Dick's will price match. I'm in Western NY (OK/TX transplant) where 99% of the people don't know what BBQ tastes like. The only option I have outside of online is Dick's. I brought in the Atwoods Lumberjack $6.99 sale price and they matched it without question. Gonna hit a couple more up so I can stock up.

Close is a relative term here, the closer one is about 8-10 miles closer in a completely opposite direction. I've heard good things about lumber jack pellets, I've also heard they have a lot of dust, correct me if I'm wrong. But the price they have them for would be worth the drive to stock up. I'm new to pellet grills and want to use pellets that have a history of working well in the Mak. I realize maintenance goes a long way in keeping things running smoothly but avoiding poor performing pellets is a good start.
