Get a turkey fryer or starter cubes for the chorcoal chimneys, it's alot cleaner. And the turkey fryer can be used to heat water for cleanup and hand washing.

was thinking that thillin but not sure if its in the budget as we still need to get a trailer. but definetly on the want list ok did some google searches so we might just add this to list. thanks

Then go through Harbor Freight and get a weed burner ($19-$23). Much easier and way faster. Plus you won't have a bunch of ash floating around.

Also, regardless of what is on your list, you will fine tune the list over the first few events. You do have all of the main items on your list though....double the paper towels. Also, you can use quite a few latex gloves, it is nothing to go through a whole box in one event.

Enclosed 7x14, thought of just utility but wife wants enclosed LOL yea the paper towels and rubber gloves will be a few of each. i tried to think step by step everything we use here and tried to write it down. will put it in excel with sections for everything on the comps we can fill in for records also.

Dont forget food for you and your crew, as well as frying pans, coffee pot ect.

Creature comforts I call em.

I would increase the ribs to 3 or 4 racks.

Also:

Duct tape (Ya never know)
Surge Suppressor (The extra plugs will come in handy)
Water (At least a coule of gallons0
A way to heat water (even an electric teapot will help)
Drinks (Soft and Adult)

You will need a canopy. I don't think they will let you prep in full sun light. Our first year a Grill Kings the team next to us was disqualified by Murray Saltzman because they refused to do their prep under a canopy.

Your kidding me, I have never heard of this, But anything is possible. our first year we never had a canopy in 02. Since then we have but now we have a 31 foot BBQ war wagon with refrigeration, sinks and the works. oh and the big finish AIR conditioning.

Where is that in the rules???

Where is that in the rules???

I am gonna venture a guess here, and that is all it is--a guess!

They may have run afoul of local health department or the organizer's rules.
Many HD's require "cover" over any cooking areas simply to keep bird chit off the food, if nothing else.
And, this was in a major metro area if I understand the situation--lots of rules when you have lots of people.

Some other thoughts, but I will save them for now.

I agree with Kapn on this one, even if it's a guess.

I also agree with everyone else for what to bring with you. I think you will find that after this one you're gonna look at some of the stuff you brought and go, "why did I bring that?" I mean, I have only competed once so far, and I have already pared down some of the things on my list. I think we all tend to bring more than we need, but you don't want to have one of those "OH CHIT I FORGOT THE..." moments.

There is probably more but I can't think of anything everyone left out. I have a checklist and check off every item before I leave the house. It has saved me many trips to the store at the contest site.
