A friend is about to cut down what I know as a Chinkapin tree. It bears the big thorny nuts and is somewhat of a short tree that is more spread out than tall. I searched the forum and internet but the info I found is a little confusing. I found the Chinquapin Oak which seems to be a different tree.
My question is can this tree be used to smoke. I was assuming since it bore a nut/fruit that it might be suitable. I am in the South Alabama area.
By the way, I would be using it along with pecan and/or oak in a stick burner.
Thoughts?
