Has anyone used a bourbon based sauce for a comp with any success? Or is it one of those flavors that is a hit or miss?

I would not use it but you never know until you try it.

I've been on the judging side of this a few times, and I can tell you Yes, it's been done.

Haven't seen this yet. Mind you, I LOVE bourbon; drink it straight up (Makers Mark or Wild Turkey)... However, that I recall everyone at best thought it completely controlled the taste and therefore completely masked the flavor of the meat itself. At worst some folks hated the taste of bourbon or didnt drink alcohol at all so were offended to no end that alcohol was part of the sauce.

Trust me, you'll be luckly if you get 3 of the 6 to give you good scores.
 
I live in the Bourbon caitol of the World, and I say not just no, but hell no..
